Pokémon Horizons: The Series Releases Trailer with New Protagonists

The Pokémon Company has released a new 55-second trailer for its upcoming anime series Pokémon Horizons: The Series. The anime is scheduled to air in Japan with an 1-hour long premiere on April 14, 2023. 

The new trailer highlights the backgrounds of new protagonists, Liko and Roy, and their interactions with various Pokémon. 

An English subtitled version of the trailer was also released. 

Voice actresses Minori Suzuki and Yuka Terasaki will voice protagonists Liko and Roy, respectively. Meanwhile, Taku Yashiro will voice their traveling companion, Professor Friede while Ikue Ootani voices his Pokémon, Captain Pikachu.

Additional voice cast members were also revealed, along with their respective characters and Pokémon companions. They include Shun Horie as Amethio (leader of the Explorers group), Ayane Sakura as Orla, Kenta Miyake as Murdock, Kei Shindou as Mollie, Ikkyuu Juku as Ludlow, Kousuke Tanabe as Jil, Arisa Shida as Konia, and Yoshino Aoyama as Kurumin.

The main production staff includes Saori Den (Pokemon: Kami to Yobareshi Arceus opening storyboarder), Daiki Tomiyasu (Pokémon Journeys: The Series chief director) as creative director, Tetsuo Yajima (Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle director) as action director, Dai Satou (Yurei Deco) as series screenwriter, Rei Yamazaki (Pokémon Journeys: The Series co-Pokémon designer) as character designer, Kyouko Itou (Pokémon Journeys: The Series animation director) as sub-character designer, and Conisch (Pokémon: Hisuian Snow) as music composer. OLM is the animation production company for the series once again. 

Pokémon Horizons: The Series will follow the adventures of Liko (from the Paldea region), Roy (from the Kanto region), and Friede across the Pokémon world while unraveling the mysteries of Liko’s pendant and Roy’s Poké Ball. The show will also feature Paldea starter Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

The new anime series was announced after original Pokémon protagonist Ash Ketchum/Satoshi became World Champion last November in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: It first premiered in December 2021, as part of the long-running Pokémon anime that first began in April 1997.

An 11-episode series titled Pokémon: Mezame Pokémon Master premiered in Japan on January 13, 2023. It was described as the final chapter in Ash and Pikachu’s story.
