The Kaina of the Great Snow Sea sequel movie Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Hoshi no Kenja has received a second main trailer, which features a longer length of one minute and 37 seconds versus the previous main trailer‘s 34 second length. In addition to having more footage, the new trailer also previews the theme song “Gekkouyoku” by Yorushika.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea ran from January to March 2023 with 11 episodes, with Crunchyroll and Bilibili streaming the anime outside Japan. The fantasy title, which is the 40th anniversary project for Polygon Pictures, is described as:
A world blanketed in an endless and ever-growing ocean of snow.
The people eke out a living, either huddled around the roots of enormous trees dotting the surface, or high in the canopy, which spreads over the planet’s atmosphere.
A chance meeting between Kaina, a youth from the canopy, and Liliha, a young woman from the surface, sets off a chain of events that will change the fate of the world.
The movie sees the introduction of Natsuki Hanae as Byozan, a dictator in control of the weapon called the Builder who seeks to destroy the Orbital Spire Trees and reset the world for humanity’s sake.
Manga artist Tsutomu Nihei (Blame!) is credited with the original concept for Kaina of the Great Snow Sea. The anime’s staff includes Hiroaki Ando (Listeners, Ajin: Demi-Human) as director, Sadayuki Murai (Sabikui Bisco) as series composer, and Ryouhei Fukushi (Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars co-character designer) and Kyoko Kotani (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury character animation director) as animation character designers.
Other staff include Mitsunori Kataama (Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars art director) as visual concept designer, Kimiko Kubo (Her Blue Sky background artist) as art director, Hironori Nochi (Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars) as color designer, Kazumasa Izawa (Knights of Sidonia: The Movie layout and animation supervisor) as chief layout and animation supervisor, and Kohta Yamamoto (Attack on Titan The Final Season co-composer) and Misaki Umase as music composers.
