The Aniplex YouTube channel has released a four-and-a-half minute video that recaps the first arc of the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai anime series. The arc sees series protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa meeting and helping the titular bunny girl senpai (and his future girlfriend) Mai Sakurajima, whose existence is mysteriously fading away.
The recap video’s upload comes a few weeks ahead of the May 31 release of a Blu-ray box containing Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai and its sequel movie, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai first aired in 2018 with 13 episodes, with Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl following in 2019. A new sequel movie, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, is set to premiere in Japan on June 23.
The anime are based on the KADOKAWA-published light novel series written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi, which sees Sakuta helping various girls who suffer from Adolescence Syndrome, a supernatural affliction related to the social issues they face in the real world.
Yen Press describes the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai volume of the original light novels as:
Bunny girls do not live in libraries. This is simply common sense. And yet, that’s exactly where Sakuta finds one in the wild. More bewildering is who the bunny girl is: Mai Sakurajima, a girl one year older than Sakuta, famous at their school for her acting career even though she’s currently on break. To top it all off, it seems like no one else in the library can see Mai at all, no matter what she does or…wears. Wanting to find out more about this mystery and maybe get a little closer to this beautiful upperclassman in the process, Sakuta launches an investigation to discover why an unforgettable bunny girl keeps becoming totally invisible.
Souichi Masui directed the anime at CloverWorks with Masahiro Yokotani as series composer and scriptwriter and Satomi Tamura as character designer. The cast includes:
• Kaito Ishikawa as Sakuta
• Asami Seto as Mai
• Nao Touyama as Tomoe Koga
• Atsumi Tanezaki as Rio Futaba
• Maaya Uchida as Nodoka Toyohama
• Yurika Kubo as Kaede Azusagawa
• Inori Minase as Shoko Makinohara
