Golden Kamuy Season 4 will begin its rebroadcast on April 3. An illustration featuring the characters Hyakunosuke Ogata, Kouhei Nikaidou, Tokishige Usami, Toshiyuki Kadokura, Kirawus, and Vasily was released with the announcement.
The release of Episodes 7 to 13 of Golden Kamuy Season 4 (43 to 49 of the series) was put on hold last November after the passing of a staff member who was described as “indispensable” to the production. It was announced last December that the season would be rebroadcast from Episode 1 sometime in April 2023.
Golden Kamuy Season 4 initially premiered on October 4 in Japan. It is based on the Shueisha-published historical adventure manga by Satoru Noda. The first and second seasons premiered in 2018 while the third season premiered in 2020.
Viz describes the manga as:
In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.
Golden Kamuy Season 4 is produced by Brain’s Base instead of the previous seasons’ Genos Studio, with new staff members including Shizutaka Sugahara (Grimms Notes: The Animation, Rin-ne, and D-Frag! director) as chief director and Takumi Yamakawa (To Your Eternity, In/Spectre, and Grimms Notes: The Animation animation director) as character designer.
Other new staff include Tooru Koga (Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z) as art director, Yuuku Fukuda (To Your Eternity) as color designer, and Oda Yorinobu (To Your Eternity) as photography director. Returning from previous seasons are Noboru Takagi as series composer and scriptwriter and Kenichiro Suehiro as music composer.
Meanwhile, reprising the roles of main duo Saichi Sugimoto and Asirpa are Chikahiro Kobayashi and Haruka Shiraishi respectively. Masaaki Mizunaka and Tomokazu Seki joined the cast for Season 4 as Ariko and Boutarou the Pirate respectively.
The Shueisha-published Golden Kamuy manga ran from 2014 to 2022, ending with 31 tankoubon volumes. It was serialized in Weekly Young Jump and is published under the Young Jump Comics label. Viz publishes the manga in English.
