Urusei Yatsura Previews Theme Songs in Frenetic New Trailer

A second trailer packed with boisterous footage has been released for Urusei Yatsura. The new promotional video also features the anime’s newly announced theme songs, which are the opening song “AIUE” by MAISONdes feat. Minami and SAKURAmoti and the ending song “Tokyo Shandy Rendezvous” by MAISONdes feat. Kafu and Tsumiki.

Urusei Yatsura is set to premiere in Japan on October 13. It will have four cours, with the first two cours to air consecutively. The anime will adapt selected portions of Rumiko Takahashi‘s manga, which ran from 1978 to 1987 and was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday.

In a high-stakes game of tag, Ataru must touch Lum’s horns in ten days—or aliens will take over the earth! The fact that Lum can fly doesn’t make Ataru’s job any easier. As it turns out, the game of tag is only the beginning of Ataru’s troubles, as he continues to attract strange encounters with otherworldly beings like beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama!

The anime is directed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind‘s Hideya Takahashi and Kimura Yasuhiro, with Yuuko Kakihara (The Aquatope on White Sand) as series composer and Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) as character designer. david production is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi, Sumire Uesaka as Lum, Maaya Uchida as Shinobu Miyake, Mamoru Miyano as Shuutarou Mendou, Wataru Takagi as Cherry, and Miyuki Sawashiro as Sakura.

The Urusei Yatsura manga was previously adapted into an anime series in the 80s and also inspired multiple movies and OVAs. The series ran from 1981 to 1986, with a pre-Ghost in the Shell Mamoru Oshii as chief director during the first 129 episodes. Kazuo Yamazaki (Yume Tsukai) took over the role afterwards. The movies were mainly released throughout the 80s, with one being released in 1991. The OVAs were also mainly released during that time period, although one was released in 2010.
