One Piece Film Red Beats Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s Japanese Box Office Earnings With 13.87 Billion Yen

One Piece Film Red has now earned over 13.8 billion yen (~US$96.95 million) in Japan, beating Jujutsu Kaisen 0‘s 13.75 billion yen gross and becoming the country’s 14th top-grossing movie in the process.

One Piece Film Red also maintained the top spot at the weekend box office for the sixth week running with a weekend gross of 490 million yen (~US$3.47 million).

The movie is now a few hundred million yen away from surpassing Weathering With You‘s 14.19 billion domestic gross and taking over the 13th spot on the all-time ranking.

One Piece Film Red is the 15th and most financially successful One Piece movie. It premiered in Japan on August 6 and earned over 10 billion yen in 20 days. 

The movie’s songs, performed by the major new character Uta (Kaori Nazuka; singing voice Ado), have also found favor with audiences, with the animated music video for the song “New Genesis” having over 55 million views since its June 15 premiere. The song is also currently number one on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100 chart, while the Uta no Uta One Piece Film Red is placed second on the Hot Albums chart.

Gorou Taniguchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;SurrectionOne Piece: Taose! Kaizoku Gyanzakku) directed the film with Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film: Gold, GANTZ:O) as scriptwriter, Masayuki Satou (One Piece Film Strong World character designer and animation director) as character designer and chief animation director, and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda as general producer and original story creator.
