Videos for Soundback: Kanade no Ishi and Unmei Sensen Liddell-light, two fictional anime from Mizuki Tsujimura’s Anime Supremacy novel, have been released. Both anime are listed with a 2022 release date.
The videos take on the form of in-universe promotional videos by listing Hitomi Saito and Chiharu Oji, two characters from Anime Supremacy, as the respective directors of Soundback: Kanade no Ishi and Unmei Sensen Liddell-light. The former is a mecha anime, while the latter features magical girls. More details will be released later.
Anime Supremacy, titled Haken Anime! in Japan, revolves around three women in the anime industry. Right Stuf describes the story as:
Japanese animation—the globally acclaimed, family-friendly theatrical features are the exception rather than the rule for a TV-oriented industry that has been pushed into late-night slots in an era of fragmented audiences. When only three titles among fifty might turn a profit, topping the charts is hardly an overambitious aim.
Yet as three women, a producer, a director, and an animator, survive in a business infamous for its murderous schedules, demoralizing compromises, and incorrigible men, moments of uplift emerge against all odds—and how. More than just a window into an entertainment niche, here’s a kickass ode to work.
The novel was first serialized in the An An women’s magazine from 2012 to 2014. A tankobon version was published in 2014, while a bunkobon version was published in 2017. The Japanese release featured illustrations from CLAMP, while its English translation featured illustrations from Hwei Lim.
Anime Supremacy was the second runner-up in the 12th Japan Booksellers’ Award. It has also received a stage play adaptation.
