Game developer and artist lvl374 has revealed the visual novel She Doesn’t Know (Kanojo wa Shiranai), which depicts a single day in the life of “childhood friends and lovers” Haruka and Shiho through 1-bit pixel art. It will support English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese (lvl374 says the translations are “currently being refined”) and will tentatively have a demo with the finalized translations at October’s Steam Next Fest.
She Doesn’t Know‘s story is set in July 1999, with Haruka (the POV character) and Shiho being students in their second year of high school. The game’s Steam page says that the two will have “casual conversations about various worries and questions,” from their post-graduation plans and Shiho’s family problems to death, happiness, and their “sexual feelings for” each other.
“Back then, we were idly drifting through a moratorium period where ignorance was tolerated,” says the game’s description. “Yes—in essence, we knew nothing at all.”
There’s currently no release date for She Doesn’t Know. The Steam page warns of “depictions of mild bullying, violence, and suicide, as well as other content that some players may find disturbing.”
