Kyoto Animation has unveiled an animated trailer for the Sogen no Kagayaki novel, which is published under the studio’s KA Esuma Bunko label.
Uno Nakata storyboarded the unit directed the commercial, which depicts a tender interaction between main characters Tao Constable and Benjamin Lawrence. Nakata is also one of the two key animators, the other being animation director Tomomi Sato.
Other staff include color designer Kana Miyata (CITY The Animation, Beyond the Boundary), background art director Mayu Harashima, and compositing director Kazuki Ueno.
Sogen no Kagayaki was written by Reiko Yoshida (A Silent Voice and L’etoile de Paris en Fleur scriptwriter) and illustrated by Yukiko Horiguchi (Demons’ Crest and Kokoro Connect, K-On! and Lucky Star character designer). According to the synopsis, the premise sees 13-year-old Tao entering a public school after his mother’s remarriage, due to their inability to get used to their new family only to feel estranged even there. Tao begins to secretly grow a Colchicum bulb in a corner of the school, which leads to an encounter with a person with platinum blue eyes.
The novel went on sale on November 22, 2023.
