Netflix has announced today that Blue Eye Samurai will return for season 2.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

Season 1 of Blue Eye Samurai was released on Netflix on November 3. The Edo Japan-set samurai tale features a 2D-3D hybrid animated style and follows Mizu (Maya Erskine), a “mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.”

Aside from Erskine, the cast includes:

 Brenda Song as Akemi
 Darren Barnet as Taigen
 Randall Park as Heiji Shindo
 Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler
 Stephanie Hsu as Ise

Anime Trending writer Nico Monterosso offered effusive praise for the show. “Blue Eye Samurai is a fantastic series that shows care in all aspects of this show,” Monterosso wrote. “There is an understanding of the elements that embody itself and the artists involved to form a visceral blend of “East meets West” in this beautiful, action-packed series. It is that artistry that showcases the blend between life and death, adding so much life into this series that makes the tension of death captivating for the viewer.”

Monterosso also discussed Blue Eye Samurai‘s creative challenges with Noizumi and Green, which you can read here.
