Yen Press describes the light novels as:

Tomozaki is one of the best gamers in Japan, and in his opinion, the game of real life is one of the worst. No clear-cut rules for success, horribly balanced, and nothing makes sense. But then he meets a gamer who’s just as good as him, and she offers to teach him a few exploits…

The returning staff members for Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki: 2nd Stage include director Shinsuke Yanagi, character designer Akane Yano, and series composer Fumihiko Shimo. project No.9 is still the animation production company.

Meanwhile, reprising their roles are::

• Gen Satou as Fumiya Tomozaki
• Hisako Kanemoto as Aoi Hinami
• Ikumi Hasegawa as Minami Nanami
• Ai Kayano as Fuuka Kikuchi
• Ryouko Maekawa as Hanabi Natsubayashi
• Nene Hieda as Yuzu Izumi

The light novel series began in 2016 and has 12 volumes, including two short story collections, as of January 2022. The light novels have inspired a manga adaptation by Eito Chida and a Minami Nanami manga spin-off by Bana Yoshida.
