The Lupin the 3rd vs Cat’s Eye anime crossover, which is meant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lupin the 3rd anime and the 40th anniversary of Cat’s Eye, will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on January 27. A new trailer and visual have been released.
Additionally, more cast members were revealed as well. Aside from Kanichi Kurita as Lupin III and Keiko Toda as Hitomi Kisugi, Lupin the 3rd vs Cat’s Eye has Akio Ootsuka as Daisuke Jigen, Daisuke Namikawa as Goemon Ishikawa, Miyuki Sawashiro as Fujiko Mine, Kouichi Yamadera as Zenigata, Rika Fukami as Rui Kisugi, and Chika Sakamoto as Ai Kisugi.
The CG anime is directed by the Godzilla anime movie trilogy’s Koubun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita with Keisuke Ide (Levius director) as assistant director, Shuuji Kuzuhara (Puzzle & Dragons) as scriptwriter, and Haruhisa Nakata (Fairy Gone original character designer) and Junko Yamanaka (Kono Oto Tomare! Sounds of Life character designer) as character designers. Yuuji Oono (Lupin the 3rd Part 6) and Kazuo Ootani (Cat’s Eye) are composing the music. TMS Entertainment is in charge of the animation production with assistance from Moe.
The first Lupin the 3rd anime was a TV series that begin airing in 1971. The shows, which follow the escapades of the titular master thief and his sidekicks and acquaintances, are inspired by the late Monkey Punch’s 1967 to 1969 Futabasha-published Lupin the 3rd manga and its multiple follow-up series.
Meanwhile, the Cat’s Eye manga by City Hunter‘s Tsukasa Houjou ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1981 to 1984 and later received a special one-shot in 1985. Eighteen tankoubon volumes were originally published under the Jump Comics label. The series, which follows three sibling art thieves who steal the art of their lost father, has inspired two television anime seasons, a 1997 live-action film adaptation, and more. The main characters appeared in 2019’s City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes anime movie as well.
