The upcoming second season of Muv-Luve Alternative has received its main visual and its first trailer, the latter of which clocks in at 15 seconds. The trailer provides a look at the returning main cast and some glimpses of action between the TSFs and BETA, while the visual features protagonist Takeru and his love interest Sumika.
An October 5 Japanese release date was also revealed. The first season aired during the Fall 2021 anime season.
Muv-Luv Alternative is based on a visual novel which first released in Japan in 2006. The Muv-Luv Alternative visual novel, a sequel to 2003’s Muv-Luv and its second half, Muv-Luv Unlimited, is set in an alternate Earth introduced in Unlimited, in which mankind is facing extinction from an alien race known as the BETA, and carries a notably darker and more serious tone than its predecessors. Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative were released on Steam in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Crunchyroll describes the first season as:
A story of the bonds between those who fight, in a world pushed to its limits. On one of the countless parallel worlds that exist throughout spacetime, humanity has fought a decades long war against the BETA, hostile extraterrestrial invaders, using humanoid fighting machines called Tactical Surface Fighters. This is a story of how humanity lives and dies while on the brink of extinction…
