A main trailer has been released for the Aikatsu Planet! movie, which shows off footage from both the upcoming live-action and anime hybrid film and the Aikatsu! 10th Story ~ Mirai e no Starway anime that will be screened with it. The trailer also previews the latter’s theme song “MY STARWAY” by Waka, Fuuri, and Yuna

A stage greeting event with a full, early screening of the movie was also announced for June 27 with Grand Cinema Sunshine as the venue. The movie will premiere on July 15.

The Aikatsu Planet! movie, which was preceded by a 2021 series, takes place several months after the Planet Princess Grand Prix and will revolve around an appreciation event, which is meant to convey protagonist Mao Otoha’s gratitude to her fans and allies. Meanwhile, Aikatsu! 10th Story ~ Mirai e no Starway will follow Ichigo, Aoi, and Ran from the original Aikatsu! anime as graduation approaches, causing them think about their future paths.

Both titles are helmed by Ryuuichi Kimura, who previously directed both the Aikatsu Planet! and Aikatsu! series, and produced by BN Pictures. The Aikatsu Planet! movie is written by the series’ series composer Misuzu Chiba (Aikatsu Planet! series composer), with other returning staff including character designer Risa Miyadani and music composers Cheru Watanabe, Takamitsu Ono, and Kei Tsuda

Similarly, Aikatsu! 10th Story ~ Mirai e no Starway brings back Aikatsu!‘s series composer Youichi Katou, character designer Hiroko Yaguchi, and music composer MONACA

The Aikatsu! idol franchise began with 2012’s Data Carddass Aikatsu!, a trading card arcade game from Bandai. The anime adaptation of Data Carddass Aikatsu! began the same year and ended in 2015. Following the original arcade game, the following years saw the release of Data Carddass Aikatsu Stars!, Data Carddass Aikatsu Friends!Data Carddass Aikatsu on Parade!, and Data Carddass Aikatsu Planets!. All of the Data Carddass Aikatsu! games have received anime series adaptations of varying lengths, and there have also been several anime movies and a web series across the franchise.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
