Asian content distributor Medialink Group has announced a collaborative business partnership with animation studio MAPPA that includes anime distribution, licensing, and merchandising rights for Chainsaw Man. The agreement will cover several Asian territories, including China.
More information about the partnership is expected to be released at a later date. Updates will be made available on Medialink and content platform Ani-One’s social media accounts.
Medialink Group chairman and CEO Lovinia Chiu provided the following statement on her company’s new partnership with MAPPA:
“Medialink is excited to bring this highly anticipated title from MAPPA to [the] whole [of] Asia. We believe our anime fans are as excited as we are, and Chainsaw Man is one of the most awaited titles in 2022 by the fan communities across the region, and will definitely create a big hit wave. Medialink and MAPPA will continue to provide the best anime titles to the anime fans, and the general market.”
The original Chainsaw Man manga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 3, 2018 to December 14, 2020. The series is written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. 11 tankoubon volumes have been published in total. A second part will be serialized on the Shonen Jump+ app and website in Summer 2022.

The animation production staff includes Ryuu Nakayama (Jujutsu Kaisen episode director) as director, Kazutaka Sugiyama (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation) as character designer, Tatsuya Yoshihara (Black Clover director) as action director, and Hiroshi Seko as scriptwriter (Attack on Titan: The Final Season series composer).
Other staff include Makoto Nakazono (Jujutsu Kaisen Ep 16 director and storyboarder) as chief episode director, Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Deca-Dence cyborg designer) as devil designer, Yuusuke Takeda (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-) as art director, Naomi Nakano (Kemono Jihen) as color designer, Youhei Miyahara (Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia technical director) as screen designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Japan Sinks: 2020) as music composer. MAPPA is the animation production studio.
Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs in Japan. They describe the anime as:
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man”–a man with a devil’s heart.
