This week, Vivy: Flourite Eye’s Song scores a critical win to keep itself in the race for the Anime of the Season title, as it tops the weekly charts for the second time this season and pushes 86 EIGHTY-SIX back to second place. Both anime have now won two weeks in total this season, keeping them in close competition with two other AOTS contenders that are slated to end next week — HIGEHIRO and Fruits Basket. In the wake of its final episode, Vivy’s titular character also returns to the top spot in this week’s female rankings, which raises the stakes for the other best girl contenders — Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket), Sayu Ogiwara (HIGEHIRO), and Vladilena Mirize (86 EIGHTY-SIX).

Meanwhile, after five weeks of hogging the fourth spot on the anime rankings, HIGEHIRO finally returned to the third spot. Though it had good fortunes this week in the latest anime rankings, the series lost its hold of the top spots in the male and female character charts this week as its lead characters, Yoshida and Sayu Ogiwara dropped to the third and second spots of the male and female charts respectively. HIGEHIRO’s break in the anime rankings is followed by Fruits Basket reaching fourth place and Koikimo reaching fifth place for the first time this season. The complicated rom-com’s success stems from its final episode, which now provides Koikimo a high chance of winning a spot in the wildcard rounds for the Anime of the Year nominations. As it stands, whichever anime ranks the highest (outside of the four anime already nominated for Spring 2021) will qualify for a berth in the wildcard rounds. Though the fight for the wildcard berth is free-for-all, based on this week’s rankings, peak positions for each anime in this season, and historical/statistical record of those that previously won the wildcard berth in the past seasons, Koikimo will be battling against To Your Eternity, Tokyo Revengers, and Shadows House. Zombie Land Saga Revenge may also have a chance, given its proximity to the fifth spot this week. The four anime already nominated for Spring 2021’s Anime of the Season are Fruits Basket, HIGEHIRO, 86 EIGHTY-SIX, and Vivy: Flourite Eye’s Song.

Although it lost the couple-ship chart, Koikimo managed to top another chart this week. Its male lead, Ryou Amakusa, takes first place and pushes Yoshida (HIGEHIRO) and other contenders back one spot. Surprisingly though, some of the male characters retain their same rankings, including Kyou and Yuki Souma (Fruits Basket) and Manjirou Sano (Tokyo Revengers). Outside of the Top 10, Koutarou Tatsumi (Zombie Land Saga Revenge) continues to climb the rankings after his meteoric rise from #24 to #17 last week. He went up by three more spots this week and is now at #14. This comes after a brief reveal of his backstory in the latest preview of Zombie Land Saga Revenge’s final episode.

Though he has not reached the Top 10 male rankings this season, Tatsumi enters the Top 10 couple-ship rankings with Sakura Minamoto for the first time. The latest Zombie Land Saga Revenge episode not only features their backstories but also Tatsumi’s resolve to make Minamoto’s dream of becoming an idol come true after her untimely death. Naoto and Nagatoro (Don’t Toy with me, Miss Nagatoro) return to the third spot in the latest couple-ship rankings, which keeps them in the race for the final nomination spot for the Couple-Ship of the Year title in the upcoming 8th Anime Trending Awards.
