Sonny Boy Drops New 60-Second Trailer Ahead of June 19 Advanced Screening

A new 60-second trailer for the Shingo Natsume (One Punch Man)-directed Sonny Boy anime has dropped, offering a longer preview of the upcoming show’s surreal environments and fluid animation.

A new visual for the Madhouse-produced anime, which sees 36 middle school students being transported to a different dimension where they receive supernatural powers, was also released.

Sonny Boy is set to premiere on July 15, with advanced online screening on June 19. It was announced in April with a teaser trailer.

The staff includes Norifumi Kugai (ACCA: 13) as character designer, Hisashi Euguchi (Perfect Blue) as the original character designer, Mari Fujino (Dororo) as art director, Satoshi Hashimoto (BEASTARS) as color designer, and Akane Fushihara (No Game, No Life Zero) as photography director.

Meanwhile, the main cast includes Aoi Ichikawa (Magical Sempai) as Nagara, Saori Ōnishi (Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 2) as Nozomi, Aoi Yūki (Rent-a-Girlfriend) as Mizuko, and Chiaki Kobayashi (Moriarty the Patriot) as Asakaze.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
