Two new Mr. Osomatsu (Osomatsu-kun) anime are coming in 2022 and 2023 respectively to celebrate the 2015 series’ sixth anniversary. The two new anime will receive a limited theatrical run in Japan.
Mr. Osomatsu is inspired by the 1962 gag manga series Osomatsu-kun by Fujio Akasaka. The Studio Pierrot-produced anime aired its third season from October 2020 to March 2021. A movie was released in 2019.
Akasaka’s manga previously received two anime adaptations, including one produced by Pierrot, in the late 20th century. The 2015 anime spawned further media in the form of a manga by Masako Shitara, novels, games, and a non-Pierrot-produced short form web anime.
Viz describes the first season of Mr. Osomatsu as:
In the hardworking country of Japan, the sextuplet Matsuno brothers from the legendary comedy manga Osomatsu-kun are now all grown up but just can’t be bothered to do anything productive with their lives. Allergic to work, inept with girls, and completely oblivious to what society thinks of them, the six twenty-somethings prefer to spend their days lying around their parents’ house, where Mom makes the food, Dad makes the money, and the pressures of modern living never intrude. After all, life is just too short to waste your time not wasting your time.
