Prolific anime character designer and director Kazuto Nakazawa (B: The Beginning, Terror in Resonance) has drawn a new illustration for the Samurai Champloo anime series, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary since its first broadcast on May 20, 2004.
Nakazawa’s new illustration features the main characters Jin and Mugen.

The illustration was released to promote a new video contest hosted by the FlyingDog record label, where participants are invited to edit and use provided clips from Samurai Champloo to make new videos. The contest categories are split into the shorts and music video categories, and winners will be chosen by series director Shinichiro Watanabe and FlyingDog staff.
More information about the contest and prize details can be found on the contest’s official website.
Nakazawa worked on Samurai Champloo as a character designer and chief animation director. Watanabe served as director, with Shinji Obara as screenwriter and Manglobe as the animation production company. Tsutchie, Fat Jon, Nujabes, and Force of Nature provided the music score for the series.

Samurai Champloo aired from May 20, 2004 to March 19, 2005 for a total of 26 episodes. Funimation previously licensed the series for release outside of Japan, before it transferred to Crunchyroll for streaming. The latter describes the synopsis as:
Mugen is a ferocious, animalistic warrior with a fighting style inspired by break-dancing. Jin is a ronin samurai who wanders the countryside alone. They may not be friends, but their paths continually cross. And when ditzy waitress Fuu gets them out of hot water with the local magistrate, they agree to join her search for the samurai who smells like sunflowers.
