Prior to Week#10 of that season, the competition was still tight between Natsume and 3 other contenders (Bungou Stray Dogs S2, Yuri!! on Ice, and Haikyuu!! 3) with a similar number of weeks won so far. At that point, Haikyuu had won 3 weeks, and the others, including ‘Natsume’, had each won 2 weeks. But all of that changed when ‘Natsume’, which many thought would lose, after falling 3 huge spots during the 9th week, and the seemingly unstoppable hype for YOI during that period, suddenly reversed everything that happened during the week and made a big comeback to the #1 spot – it’s 3rd win at the time, tying Haikyuu for the most number of weeks won. Natsume fans, from the brink of elimination, suddenly found themselves in opposite situation and they held the momentum while heading into the final week of Fall 2016.

In the end, they successfully held on to the momentum, and won the LWA – their 4th win (or 5th win) overall, sealing their victory to be hailed as the ‘Anime of the Season’ for Fall 2016. This shocked many people, especially the YOI fans, who thought they had the LWA in the bag because of how well created for them YOI’s last episode was. But to the surprise of many, Natsume also delivered, based from reactions from our FB page, a great final episode – catching the fans of other competing anime by surprise. Natsume won the 4-way Fall 2016 race (5-3-2-2), leading by 333 votes over the runner-up, which was Bungou Stray Dogs, and what would be the biggest upset of the season, a huge lead of 1,259 votes over Yuri on Ice, which only placed third in the final tally. But everyone must remember how it was able to retain this momentum heading on to the final two weeks – and that is by delivering an action packed episode during those weeks it won. Same how it made a comeback during the Spring 2016 Anime Season, showing action-packed episodes seems to be the formula in doing so. Compared to its first season, the current season of Boku no Hero Academia is slated for two-cours, meaning it won’t have its last episode this season (well, obviously duh..), which could somehow be a question mark to its chances of winning again, considering that last episodes is where all the great stuff happens.

It can’t be discounted that Natsume Yuujinchou Roku can do it again also, considering that from the latest chart released, Natsume is on the rise again after slumping 3 spots to #6 last week. But just to point out again, Natsume Yuujinchou is the reigning ‘Anime of the Year’, which was again a surprise for many, proving that they really are “Silent Killers” as they beat the heavyweights and favorites to win, Re:Zero and Yuri on Ice, which placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Silent Killers really just can’t stop giving upset after upset and the fact that they are still contending with the most awaited anime of the year, Shingeki no Kyojin, is again another upset.

But wait!!

All of this again, are just theoretical talk and anything can still happen considering many factors that we still have to account for. Based from the latest Top 10 Anime Chart released, Re:Creators just rose to the #2 spot. It was a complete underdog back then but thanks to its 4th episode, which was labelled as pretty heartwarming and a breather from the usual romance anime that is being shown every season, it made that magnificent 8-spot jump all the way to #2 during the second week of the Spring 2017 charts, and eventually the top spot the week after, which it was able to maintain for two straight weeks. Most important to take note of is that it is currently the one, based on the number of weeks won, with the lead, winning Weeks 3,4, and 7.

Lastly, as everyone knows, the second season of Shingeki no Kyojin would end this season, as it is only slated for 12 episodes.
