MediaOCD founder Justin Sevakis provided an update on its upcoming Vampire Princess Miyu Blu-ray release this past week, stating that its packaging draft has now been approved by licensors. As a result, the previously announced blank Blu-ray packaging for the title will now be replaced with new approved artwork as displayed below.
Regarding the Blu-ray’s next steps, Sevakis confirmed that all inserts are “being reprinted and re-shrink-wrapped,” disc labels are “being re-silkscreened,” and slipcovers are also “being reprinted.” His company is aiming to have them done by the end of September and anticipates shipping them out “by the first week of October.”
Sevakis also thanked Pony Canyon and AMG for helping in the approval process. He reiterated that the release would still be a MediaOCD store exclusive and that its license agreement will still expire sometime this coming spring.
Vampire Princess Miyu was first acquired by MediaOCD in February 2025. Its Blu-ray release will include four episodes in HD, English subtitles, both the U.K. and U.S. English dubs, and a slipcover case exclusive to the company’s online store.
The 1988-1989 Vampire Princess Miyu OVA is directed by Toshihiro Hirano/Toshiki Hirano (Magic Knight Rayearth and Baki Hanma), with character designs by Narumi Kakinouchi and music by Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell). Hirano and Kakinouchi are also credited as its creators, while AIC is the animation production studio.
Naoko Watanabe voiced the titular character.
Besides the OVA, the series has inspired a 26 episode TV anime that was released between 1997 to 1998, as well as several manga series. A new manga titled Vampire Princess Miyu-Yui was published by SB Creative in January 2025.

Miyu appears to be a beautiful, doll-like young girl with a mysterious aura. But when the spiritualist Himiko confronts her after a series of vampire attacks, she reveals that she is not just a vampire, but royalty – and locked in a vicious war with the demonic Shinma.
