The upcoming We Are Aliens anime movie has received a “theme song version” trailer ahead of its September 25 release in Japan. It’s a two-minute-plus new look that has the film’s theme song “Sasakure,” performed by adieu, as its audio accompaniment.
We Are Aliens centers on two boys whose relationship is strongly shaken by a certain incident. The synopsis reads:
In a rural town during the Heisei era, two boys meet. Tsubasa, who struggles with being “ordinary,” and Gyotaro, who is seen as “special.” As subtle distortions begin to creep into their everyday lives, an irreversible incident changes their relationship forever. Is this a story of youth? Or a memory that should never be revisited?
Kohei Kadowaki, who was previously involved with music videos for YOASOBI’s “Comet,” the Ayase ft. Hatsune Miku song “Yokubari,” and KAF’s “Sore o Sekai to Iun dane.” is the movie’s director and scriptwriter. He shares a planning credit with the NOTHING NEW film label founded in 2022, which is also credited for the movie’s production (both the creative/hands-on production type and the business/finance type). Other names in the production credits include MIYU PRODUCTIONS for cooperation and Yaffle for the music.
The cast includes Ryota Bando as Tsubasa, Amane Okayama as Akitaro, Sakurazaka46’s Ten Yamasaki as Konatsu, and Kemuri Matsui as Batahara.
We Are Aliens was shown at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 as part of the Feature Film Competition lineup and will be screened at September’s Ottawa International Animation Festival in-competition. The page for its successful Motion Gallery crowdfunding campaign lists 2027 as a planned international release date.
