A short animation for the 2016 alt-history zombie action anime Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress has been released as part of the Mumei-themed Mumei Ranman plan, which falls under the show’s 10th anniversary project. The short depicts the anime’s main heroine applying makeup and commemorates a new figure based on an illustration by original character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto.
Pre-orders for the Mumei Ranman figure, which costs 35,000 yen (~US$213) before tax, have opened on the IG Port Online Store and will end on September 30. Shipping is planned to begin in June 2027.
The animation was storyboarded and unit directed by Tetsuro Araki (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and Attack on Titan Season 1 director), with a script by Ichiro Okouchi (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury series composer) and character designs by Yasuyuki Ebara (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The First Slam Dunk co-character designer).
The WIT STUDIO-produced Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress ran for 12 episodes and was followed by the 2019 movie Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: The Battle of Unato. Crunchyroll describes the synopsis of the TV anime as such:
At a time when the industrial revolution was carrying the world into the modern age, a horde of undead monsters suddenly appeared. They could not be killed unless their hearts, which were protected by a layer of iron, were pierced. These undead, which would later be known as “Kabane,” exploded in population until they finally overran the world. The people of Hinomoto, built fortresses known as “stations” that have allowed them to survive the threat of the Kabane. Ikoma is a young steamsmith living at Aragane Station, working on developing a unique anti-Kabane weapon called a “piercing gun”.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress has inspired a manga adaptation and a now-defunct mobile game.
