To you in 2026: the Takopi’s Original Sin web anime, which adapted TAIZAN 5‘s dark sci-fi drama into six gut-wrenching episodes, is getting reedited into a theatrical movie. No release date has been announced yet, but it has been revealed that new scenes will be part of this fresh release, which has the subtitle -Arigato, Mata Ashita- (-Thank You, See You Tomorrow-).
Takopi’s Original Sin follows the attempts of the titular Happy Planet alien Takopi to better the life of the bullied and neglected Shizuka, with its naivete and unfamiliarity with humans often causing unintentional harm while revealing to audiences the dark web that entangles the main cast. The anime, which was originally released in 2025, had Shinya Ino (Dr. STONE and Dr. STONE STONE WARS director, Made in Abyss Season 1 assistant director et al.) as director and series composer and ENISHIYA as the animation production studio. The latter is also credited for “produce co-operation” (“produce” being a credit that refers to activities like production planning and management).
Kurumi Mamiya provided the voice of Takopi, while Reina Ueda played Shizuka. Konomi Kohara filled the role of Shizuka’s vengeful bully, Marina, and Anna Nagase rounded out the main cast as Azuma, a boy who is charmed by Shizuka.
The web anime’s other production credits include background art director Sagako Itakura (“Page of Lambda” opening, “Sore o Ai to Yobu dake” music video), color designer Yuki Akimoto (SHOSHIMIN: How to become Ordinary), color script artist Aoi Otani (Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! co-visual board artist and ending animation 1 co-animator), and compositing director Yu Wakabayashi (BLACKFOX, “Page of Lambda” opening). The show is streaming on platforms like Crunchyroll, Netflix, Prime Video, the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel, and iQIYI.
The Takopi’s Original Sin manga began serialization on Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump+ in 2021 and released its second and final volume in 2022. MANGA Plus describes the synopsis as such:
Takopi travels from his home of Happy Planet to spread happiness across Earth, but meets the unsmiling Shizuka upon landing. Her friends at school and home life seem to be the source of her somber expression, and the pure-hearted Takopi is determined to change things for the better! But what truths await him when the curtains rise in this shocking drama?!
