hololive production‘s A-chan/Friend A, a senior and beloved figure who was its “first-ever support staff member,” has announced that she will be leaving the VTuber agency at the end of June.

As A-chan explains in her statement on X/Twitter, she had been on a break for the last three months due to “family health concerns.” Her permanent departure is due to the fact that “it seems highly unlikely that I will be able to return to work as planned,” and she apologized for issuing such an update “when a lot of you have been waiting for me.”

Among other things, A-chan is known for being the best friend of Tokino Sora, hololive’s first VTuber, and for joining the agency in order to support Sora. A-chan acknowledged this and more in the statement, writing, “Over the past seven months or so, I have gone from starting off supporting my best friend Sora’s dream of becoming an idol, to meeting and interacting with hololive production fans worldwide. Every step of this journey has been an incredibly valuable experience.”

She continued, “It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know all of you through this new VTuber culture. I’ve also managed to grow through this career, and I can say with confidence that these days have been extremely fulfilling, both personally and professionally. And for that, I have nothing but gratitude.”

A-chan says that she will now “be cheering hololive production on from the sidelines as a fan, and I hope that it will become even more beloved across the globe.”

A-chan’s farewell post didn’t just receive responses from hololive and HOLOSTARS VTubers, but also Nijisanji’s Tsukino Mito, Vlash’s Choco Hoshimiya, Neo-Porte co-founder Shibuya Hal, and various illustrators who’d worked with hololive.

Harusaki Nodoka, a comparatively recent staff member who, like A-chan, has her own model for official hololive livestreams, wrote that the two years she’d spent with A-chan were a “cherished treasure.”
