The upcoming second cour of NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a has received its third visual and a new trailer, as well as a July 2024 premiere window.

It was also announced that LiSA is performing the new opening song, “Black Box.”

NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a is inspired by the 2017 open world action-RPG NieR: Automata, where androids and alien-manufactured machines fight over a desolate Earth in the distant future. Its first cour started in January 2023 but concluded after the Winter 2023 anime season as a result of various delays. Episodes 9 to 12 were released together on July 23. Crunchyroll and Bilibili streamed the show overseas.

The PlatinumGames-developed video game has inspired other media like stage plays, novels, and manga. Lily, a character from the YoRHa prequel stage play and its manga adaptation, appears in the anime.
