The original Kinnikuman manga series was created by the creative duo Yudetamago and was launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on May 26, 1979 until May 4, 1987. The manga returned in 2011 for a new continuation and is currently serialized on Shupure NEWS. A total of 84 tankobon volumes have been released under the Jump Comics label as of March 2024.

Kinnikuman follows the clumsy titular character, whose real identity is Suguru Kinniku. He learns that he is descended from a royal line from the planet Kinniku and that he is the missing prince. Kinniku is a distant planet known for creating the greatest superheroes in the universe. To prove his worthiness for the planet’s throne, he enters several wrestling tournaments and battles many evil supermen known as the evil Choujins.
