The anime is based on the manga series by Shinobu Takayama, which was first serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic Zero Sum WARD magazine on January 16, 2008 until May 16, 2015. It was then transferred to Zero-Sum Online on September 18, 2015. Sixteen tankoubon volumes have been released as of August 2023.

Haigakura takes place in a secluded realm where deities and mortals both live. A young man named Ichiyo sets out to capture the gods who have fled all over the realm. Together with his subordinate god Tenko, Ichiyo goes on a quest to find the four evil gods, who hold the key to the realm’s collapse.
