Last week, we got an anime x Hollywood movie collaboration visual with a hot theme, as Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom‘s Lacus Clyne and Kira Yamato got transplanted into the sweltering desert of Dune: Part Two‘s Arrakis. In perfect contrast, this week’s collaboration is on the chilly side, with Dan Da Dan protagonists Momo and Okarun firing proton packs in a visual based loosely on the poster of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (subtitled Frozen Summer in the Japanese version).

Dan Da Dan is set to premiere this October, with Netflix and Crunchyroll streaming the show. The anime is based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s sci-fi occult manga, which began serialization on Shonen Jump+ in 2021 and has 12 tankoubon volumes as of December 2023. Viz Media describes the plot as:

Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school’s UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames “Okarun” because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds next is a beautiful story of young love…and oddly horny aliens and spirits?

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the follow-up to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is a sequel to the classic 1980s movies Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. It will open in the United States on March 22 and in Japan on March 29. Sony describes its premise as:

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a death chill upon the city, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
