Both 【OSHI NO KO】and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 continue to sweep the 10th Anime Trending Awards with “IDOL” by YOASOBI and “Red:birthmark” by AiNA THE END winning Best Opening of the Year and Best Ending of the Year respectively.

“IDOL” secured nearly 80 votes over The Dangers in My Heart’s opening “Shayou” by Yorushika, marking a narrow victory for Ai fans. Nonetheless, this is yet another award for the series since “IDOL” also won the Spring 2023 Best Opening award. YOASOBI also provided some textual comments in response to the awards.

【OSHI NO KO】premiered globally on April 12, 2023 across streaming platforms and took the world by storm. Its opening derives its lyrics from the short story “45510” by 【OSHI NO KO】’s author Mengo Yokoyari, which illustrates the two-faced nature of the Japanese idol industry. With such a strong tie-in to the story, it’s no wonder that “IDOL” performed so well  — it earned over 400M views on Youtube and nearly 300M streams on Spotify at the time of writing. Not to mention, it received an official English version and has been covered by Ai’s voice actress (Rie Takahashi) and Hololive’s miComet pair

Meanwhile, “Red:birthmark” outranks Zom100: Bucket List of the Dead’s ending, “Happiness of the Dead” by Shiyui, by a much larger margin of over 400 votes. The ending for the newest Gundam entry also won the Spring 2023 Best Ending award.

Though the interpretation of its lyrics to the anime isn’t as clear as “IDOL,” “Red:birthmark” still makes its mark on the Anime Trending Community with its haunting melody, the straining “shrieks” of AiNA’s voice, and the watercolor visuals depicting Suletta dancing in a strange witch-like trance. It is enough to bewitch anyone who dares dive deeper into the truth about Quiet Zero.

Returning to the topic of the 10th Anime Trending Awards, below is the full list of the openings/endings that were competing for Best Opening of the Year and Best Ending of the Year.
