The second cour of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 will begin airing on April 12 (effectively April 13 at 12 AM JST) in Japan. A trailer and key visual have been released.

Some other announcements were also made. The new cour will introduce a few new cast members, including Nao Touyama as Arcana, Toshihiko Seki as Ahid Alovo Agartz, and Aoi Yuuki as Militia. Also, the opening song has been revealed to be titled “Maou” and is performed by BURNOUT SYNDROMES.

More details will be revealed at March’s AnimeJapan 2024 event.

The first cour of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2, which saw Yuuichirou Umehara replacing Tatsuhisa Suzuki as the lead voice actor, originally began broadcasting in January, before a postponement caused it to restart in July. Crunchyroll and Bilibili streamed the show outside of Japan. The split-cour format was revealed in 2022. Season 1 premiered in 2020.

The show adapts the Dengeki Bunko light novel series written by Shuu with illustrations from Yoshinori Shizuma. J-Novel Club describes the light novels as:

Tired of ceaseless war destroying humans, spirits, and demons alike, the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, reincarnates to restore peace. Two thousand years have passed…but who could have known that his descendants’ complacency would cause magic to regress so much? After receiving an invitation to the illustrious Demon King Academy, a school tasked with locating the reincarnated founding ancestor, Anos resolves to enroll, only to discover that his magic is off the charts—literally! With power too great to be measured, the former Demon King is branded a misfit. How will he convince demonkind that the school’s founder stands before them? Thus begins a misfit’s climb to the top of the demon hierarchy!

The light novel series began in 2018 and has 19 volumes (including two-parters) as of January 2024. It has inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by the late Kayaharuka and a KADOKAWA-published manga anthology by various artists. The story started off as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2017.
