The Gushing Over Magical Girls anime adaptation is set to begin airing in Japan on January 3. A second main trailer — which previews the voices of the show’s newly announced additional cast members, the ending song “Toge Toge Sadistic” by Enormeeta (the show’s villain organization), and shots of magical girls in compromising situations — was released as well.

The newly announced voice cast members are Yuuka Aisaka as Matama Akoya/Loco Musica, Minami Tsuda as Nemo Anemo/Leberblume, and Kana Asumi as Vatz. Loco and Nemo are villains affiliated with the Lord’s Legion group, while Vatz is a mascot-like entity who supports the Tres Magia magical girls.

Additionally, it was revealed that there will be three versions of Gushing Over Magical Girls: a TV broadcast version, an “Akogare” version (AT-X and Animate Store-only), and the BD/DVD-exclusive “Chou Akogare” version. The TV version of the show will have alterations to the footage and audio, while the “Akogare” version has milder video censorship. On the other hand, the “Chou Akogare” version will be completely unfiltered.

The anime is based on the Takeshobo-published manga by Akihiro Ononaka, which began serialization on Storia Dash in 2019 and has 10 tankoubon volumes as of August 2023. J-Novel Club describes the manga as:

Hi, I’m Hiiragi Utena. I’m a normal magical-girl-loving middle school girl—or at least I was, but then some talking mascot showed up out of the blue and cast a spell on me! Now’s my chance to join my beloved magical girls as…a villain? Hang on, something’s wrong with my outfit! This can’t be happening! Watch this shy magical-girl fan transform into a sadistic dominatrix! When good and evil collide, who will be the one to submit?!
