Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ep 18 Gets Slight Streaming Delay

The Japanese X (formerly Twitter) account for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime has announced that Episode 18 of Season 2 (Ep 42 overall) will have a slightly delayed release on streaming services. The episode will now begin to show up on November 24 at 6 PM JST instead of the usual time.

It’s currently unclear if international streaming platforms will also be affected. At the time of writing, Bilibili, which streams Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 in a number of Southeast Asian countries, still lists the upcoming episode in the usual Thursday, 11:56 PM GMT+8 (12:56 AM JST) time slot.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 started airing on July 6. The current “Shibuya Incident Arc” began on August 31, a few weeks after the initial “Hidden Inventory Arc” ended. The announcement of this streaming delay comes after a period of frustrated tweets by various animators and episode directors regarding the show’s production, which Sakuga Blog’s kVIN described as having an “asphyxiating schedule.”

Jujutsu Kaisen is based on the Shueisha-published supernatural action manga by Gege Akutami, which began in 2018 and has 23 tankoubon volumes as of October 2023. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…

The anime’s first season ran from late 2020 to early 2021 with 24 episodes. It was soon followed by an anime movie adaptation of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel, which debuted in Japan in December 2021.
