HIDIVE is suspending its anime streaming service in certain areas and territories outside of North America, beginning December 14, 2024. Full access to HIDIVE’s catalog of titles will still be available on the service’s main website until December 31, 2023.

The company also posted an updated listing on its support page, stating that it is constantly evaluating its offerings and areas of operations and will “endeavor to make our content available to you via local platforms when possible.” No specific reasoning for the suspension was announced.

In addition, HIDIVE users have reportedly received emails that state the suspension will mainly affect non-English speaking territories such as Finland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, Latin America, and Mexico. The service will still be available in the United States, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia, and Puerto Rico.

In another updated statement given to Anime News Network this past week, HIDIVE said:

In light of the strong demand for anime content around the world, we are constantly evaluating the HIDIVE business and are strategically focusing our operations on the fast-growing global markets that represent approximately 98 percent of our current customer base. This move will unfortunately result in the disruption of service for some customers outside of our major markets. We are working directly with those customers to manage through this transition.

HIDIVE most recently licensed Chained Soldier and My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! for its Winter 2024 anime simulcast. It is premiering both series early at Anime NYC 2023.

The company also screened The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes anime film in U.S. theaters this past fall.

AMC Networks acquired HIDIVE’s parent company Sentai Holdings, LLC in January 2022, which includes the Sentai Filmworks brand.

In March 2023, Sentai Filmworks and Japan’s Mainichi Broadcasting System entered into a new partnership and distribution agreement, giving HIDIVE exclusive licensing rights to stream part of MBS’ future programming in all global markets outside of Asia.
