Zom 100 Anime Returns and Ends This Christmas

After multiple delays, the Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead anime adaptation will finally come to an end on Christmas Day, with all of its three remaining episodes (10 to 12) to be released on the same date.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead first premiered on July 9 and aired its ninth episode on September 24. During its broadcast, Episodes 4, 7, and 8 were hit with streaming delays, while Episode 5 was pushed back completely with a special recap taking its place. Episode 6 was delayed due to the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Adding to the messiness, SHAFT was initially credited for production assistance on the BUG FILMS-produced show, but it didn’t take long for that credit to disappear. A tweet by the show’s animation producer, which said that SHAFT would be involved in sections like animation and compositing from Episode 3, was also deleted.

Zom 100 is based on the Shogakukan-published manga written by Haro Aso and drawn by Koutaro Takata, which Viz Media describes as:

In a trash-filled apartment, 24-year-old Akira Tendo watches a zombie movie with lifeless, envious eyes. After spending three hard years at an exploitative corporation in Japan, his spirit is broken. He can’t even muster the courage to confess his feelings to his beautiful co-worker Ohtori. Then one morning, he stumbles upon his landlord eating lunch—which happens to be another tenant! The whole city’s swarming with zombies, and even though he’s running for his life, Akira has never felt more alive!

The manga series began serialization in Monthly Sunday GX in 2018 and has 15 tankoubon volumes as of September 2023. The anime is streamed by Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, Muse Asia, and Bilibili outside Japan.
