Kenshi Yonezu’s successful 2022 hit single “KICK BACK” has received a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. The song was used as the opening theme for the Chainsaw Man TV anime series.

This marks the first and only time a song written and performed in Japanese has been certified Gold by the RIAA, which indicates at least 500,000 units (including records, tapes, and CDs) sold.

“KICK BACK” began breaking records immediately upon its release, landing on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart and making Yonezu the first-ever J-pop artist to appear on the chart.

Yonezu’s most recent release, “Spinning Globe,” is featured as the official theme song to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. He also provided the official theme song to the new Final Fantasy XVI video game titled “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing.”
