A new character PV trailer has been released for the Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord TV anime series, previewing the lead heroine Yumiella Dolkness (voiced by Fairouz Ai). The anime is scheduled to premiere sometime in January 2024

Ai is part of a main voice cast that includes Yuuma Uchida as Patrick Ashbatten, Azumi Waki as Alicia Ehnleit, Taku Yashiro as Edwin Valschein, Haruki Ishiya as William Ares, and Kouhei Amasaki as Oswald Grimsarde.

Minoru Yamaoka (Zo Zo Zo Zombie-kun, Wakako-zake) is directing the anime series, with Fumihiko Shimo (Date A Live IV) as series screenwriter and Kana Utatane (Akebi’s Sailor Uniform) as music composer. Hitomi Kaiho (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Ep 1 and 2 co-chief animation director) and Lo Ho Kim (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Ep 1 co-chief animation director) are the character designers. Jumondou is in charge of the animation production for the anime.

Villainess Level 99 is based on the light novel series written by Satori Tanabata and Illustrated by Tea, which began on May 10, 2019. Five volumes have been released as of June 2022. The light novels are published under the Kadokawa Books label and originally began as a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel on June 15, 2018. It has also inspired a manga adaptation by Nokomi in 2020, which is released in English by One Peace Books.

J Novel Club releases the Villainess Level 99 light novels in English digitally, describing the synopsis as:

Yumiella Dolkness is your run-of-the-mill villainess in an otome RPG—except for the fact that she’s also secretly the overpowered hidden boss. But Yumiella wasn’t always Yumiella, you see. In her past life, she was nothing more than an introverted college student and devout gamer. So when she realizes that she’s been reincarnated as a hidden boss, she’s determined to steer clear of the protagonists and avoid her demise at their hands. All she wants is a nice, quiet life. Too bad when her gamer instincts kick in, Yumiella can’t just ignore her awesome stats… A girl’s gotta grind!

So, with plenty of time on her hands before starting life at the academy, she gets a little carried away and maxes out her level at 99. And when everyone else finds out, they get the wrong idea about her power—now they think she’s the Demon Lord! Is this OP villainess strong enough to win back the peaceful life she always wanted?!
