Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo Movie Releases Main Trailer and Visual, More Cast Details

The Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo anime movie, which is set to premiere in Japan on November 17, has received new promotional material in the form of a main trailer and main visual. More cast members were also announced.

Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo will feature Toshihiko Seki as Kitaro’s father (in his non-Medama-yaji form), while Hidenobu Kiuchi is cast as Kitaro’s human adoptive father Mizuki. The other announced voice actors include:

Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo is based on the 2018 GeGeGe no Kitaro anime series and will revolve around the mysteries concerning its titular character’s birth. Along with a new Akuma-kun anime, the Toei Animation-produced film is part of a 100th year Birth Anniversary project for the late GeGeGe no Kitaro creator Shigeru Mizuki

Returning cast members from the 2018 GeGeGe no Kitaro series include Miyuki Sawashiro as Kitaro and Masako Nozawa as Medama-yaji. The movie’s staff includes:

• Scriptwriter: Hiroyuki Yoshino (World Trigger 3rd Season series composer and scriptwriter)
 Character designer: Touko Yatabe (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time co-assistant director)

GeGeGe no Kitaro originated in 1960 as a rented manga series titled Hakaba Kitaro. The GeGeGe no Kitaro manga series followed in 1965. The first anime adaptation of GeGeGe no Kitaro aired from 1968 to 1969, while the last prior to the 2018 version aired from 2007 to 2009. An anime based on Hakaba Kitaro aired in 2008.

Nearly twenty years into the 21st century, people have forgotten the existence of Yokai. When a number of unexplainable phenomena plague adults of the human world with confusion and chaos, thirteen-year-old Mana writes a letter to the Yokai Post in search of answers, only to be greeted by Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro…

Aside from the various GeGeGe no Kitaro anime series and movies, the manga has also inspired live-action movies, video games, and stage plays.
