Kyoto Animation has released a new visual and trailer for the upcoming Sound! Euphonium Season 3 anime, with both promotional materials highlighting Mayu Kuroe, a euphonium player who will make her debut in the new season.

Sound! Euphonium Season 3 is set for an April 2024 premiere and will cover the “Kumiko Third Year Arc.” It was preceded by the Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest OVA, which was released in Japanese theaters last month. The first season of the anime began airing in 2015.

Sound! Euphonium is inspired by the Takarajimasha-published novel series by Ayano Takeda, which started publication in 2013. Yen Press describes the first book as:

After a terrible disappointment at the All-Kyoto Concert Band Competition, music has lost its spark for Kumiko. But her first year at Kitauji High School is a chance for a fresh start. So when it comes time to choose a club, she can’t resist joining the band again–even though they’re simply terrible. The strict new club director has promised to whip them into shape to reach Nationals, but the trouble runs deeper than just a lack of practice. Plus, the discord within the club tugs at Kumiko’s old insecurities. Will Kitauji High School find its rhythm before the competition? Will Kumiko?

Most of the previous Sound! Euphonium entries, including Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest, are directed by Tatsuya Ishihara. Ishihara took the role of chief director for the Sound! EuphoniumTodoketai Melody compilation movie, which was directed by his Ensemble Contest assistant Taichi OgawaJukki Hanada contributed to the series composition and/or scripts while the late Shouko Ikeda designed the characters.

Aside from the Season 1 and 2 compilation movies, the Sound! Euphonium films include the 2018 spin-off Liz and the Blue Bird and 2019’s Sound! Euphonium: Chikai no Finale. Liz and the Blue Bird was directed by Naoko Yamada as director with the late Futoshi Nishiya as character designer and Reiko Yoshida as scriptwriter.
