The new opening and ending animations for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, which feature the songs “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu and “more than words” by Hitsujibungaku, respectively, can now be viewed on the TOHO animation channel.

The opening sequence is storyboarded and unit directed by Yuuki Kamiya, whose recent credits include Chainsaw Man‘s third and eighth endings and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury Season 2’s opening. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 director Shouta Goshozono storyboarded and unit directed the ending sequence.

These new opening and ending sequences debuted with the newly released sixth episode of the anime, which marks the start of the anticipated “Shibuya Incident Arc.” The first five episodes ran from July 6 to August 3.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Gege Akutami, which began in 2018 and has 23 tankoubon volumes as of July 2023. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…

The main cast of the MAPPA-produced anime includes Junya Enoki as Yuji Itadori, Yuuma Uchida as Megumi Fushiguro, Asami Seto as Nobara Kugisaki, and Yuuichi Nakamura as Satoru Gojo. The staff credits include:

• Series composer and scriptwriter: Hiroshi Seko (returning)

• Character designer: Tadashi Hiramatsu (also credited in Season 1)

• Character designer: Sayaka Koiso (Jujutsu Kaisen 0 sub-character designer)

• Assistant director: Ryouta Aikei (Attack on Titan Final Season: The Final Chapters, Special 1 co-storyboard artist and unit director)
