EGOIST was first formed as a fictional in-universe band for the original 2011 anime series Guilty Crown. The original lineup was made up of chelly and supercell songwriter/composer Ryo, before the latter entered a supervisory role in 2020.
In addition to Guilty Crown, the unit produced theme songs for many anime series such as Psycho-Pass, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Fate/Apocrypha, BUILD-DIVIDE -#000000- CODE BLACK, and the three Project Itoh films (The Empire of Corpses, Harmony, Genocidal Organ), among other titles.
