The Idolmaster YouTube channel has released an “interlude video” for the upcoming The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors anime, with the minute-long video previewing the various idols and idol units that will appear in the show.

The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors will begin airing on Japanese television in spring 2024. Before that, it will be pre-screened in theaters with a three-part release format. The respective premiere dates for those parts are October 27, 2023; November 24, 2023; and January 5, 2024.

The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors is inspired by the game of the same name, which sees the player taking on the role of a new producer at 283 Production who is put in charge of various idols. The anime will include idols from the illumination STARS, L’Antica, Houkago Climax Girls, ALSTROEMERIA, and Straylight units. Other characters include 283 Production staff member Hazuki Nanakusa (Hibiku Yamamura) and 283 president Tsutomu Amai (Kenjirou Tsuda).

Mankyuu (The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Theater) is directing the Polygon Pictures-produced show with Takeshi Iwata (Levius CG supervisor et al.) as assistant director and CG director. Other staff include:

• CG director: Susumu Sugai (Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters co-CG director)

• Series composer: Youichi Katou (Duel Masters WIN)

• Character designer: Ryouhei Fukushi (Kaina of the Great Snow Sea co-character designer)

• Music: Lantis

The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors game was released on the enza website in 2018 and on Android and iOS in 2019. It is part of Bandai Namco Entertainment’s The Idolmaster (stylized as THE iDOLM@STER) multimedia franchise, which began with a 2005 arcade game that was ported to the Xbox 360 in 2007. Another upcoming 3DCG The Idolmaster anime, The Idolmaster Million Live!, is set to premiere this October.

Previous The Idolmaster anime include 2007’s Idolmaster: Xenoglossia, 2011’s The Idolmaster, 2015’s The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, 2017’s The Idolmaster SideM, and Spring 2023’s The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls U149.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
