During its “Toonami on the Green” panel at San Diego Comic Con 2023, Adult Swim revealed a new trailer for the upcoming FLCL: Grunge series, which will premiere on Toonami on September 9, 2023.

FLCL: Grunge is produced by Production I.G, with the animation being handled by MontBlanc Pictures. It will be directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo (After School Midnighters director), with The Pillows returning to provide the musical score.

It was also confirmed that the other FLCL sequel, FLCL Shoegaze, is also a work in progress, with no set release date being announced. A short clip of the series was previewed during the panel. FLCL: Shoegaze will be directed by Yutaka Uemura (Saga of Tanya the Evil) with animation production by Production I.G and NUT.

The original 6-episode FLCL OVA series aired from 2000 to 2001. It was followed up with two sequels in 2018 titled FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative. The latter two series were co-productions between Production I.G, Toho, and Adult Swim’s production arm, Williams Street.
