After two TV anime seasons and an OVA, the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime is heading to the big screen with a newly announced three-part theatrical series. The first entry of this new series will debut in 2024.

Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, or Nijigaku, aired its first season from October to December 2020. The second season was broadcasted from April to June 2022. A short anime adaptation of the Nijiyon 4-koma spin-off began airing on January 6.

The OVA, titled Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Next Sky, is premiering in Japanese cinemas on June 23. The returning staff for the OVA include Tomoyuki Kawamura as director, Jin Tanaka as series composer, Takumi Yokota as character designer, with Mebachi again credited with design works.

Unlike other anime in the Love Live! multimedia project, Love Live! Nijigasaki features the concept of solo idols. Crunchyroll describes Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club as:

Nijigasaki High School is known for their diverse subjects and the freedom they give to students. Second-year student Yu Takasaki has been turned on to the charms of school idols, so she knocks on the door of the School Idol Club with her friend, Ayumu Uehara. Sometimes friends, sometimes rivals, the members of this club each contribute their own thoughts and motivations to the group.

The original lineup of Nijigasaki idols was first announced in 2017 as part of the Love Live! School Idol Festival game’s PERFECT Dream Project anniversary project. The cast includes:

Hinaki Yano as Yu Takasaki
Aguri Oonishi as Ayumu Uehara
Koko Hayashi as Setsuna Yuki
 Mayu Sagara as Kasumi Nakasu
 Kaori Maeda as Shizuku Osaka
Miyu Kubota as Karin Asaka

 Maria Sashide as Emma Verde
 Chiemi Tanaka as Rina Tennnouji
 Moeka Koizumi as Shioriko Mifune
Shuu Uchida as Mia Taylor,

Tomori Kusunoki left the role of Setsuna on March 31, 2023 due to medical reasons.
