The live-action movie adaptation of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead will shamble onto Netflix on August 3. A promotional visual featuring protagonist Akira Tendo in an exuberant state against a backdrop of zombies and color splashes was released with the announcement.
The Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday GX in 2018 and has 13 tankoubon volumes as of February 2023. The series is written by Haro Aso and drawn by Koutaro Takata.
Viz Media describes the manga as:
In a trash-filled apartment, 24-year-old Akira Tendo watches a zombie movie with lifeless, envious eyes. After spending three hard years at an exploitative corporation in Japan, his spirit is broken. He can’t even muster the courage to confess his feelings to his beautiful co-worker Ohtori. Then one morning, he stumbles upon his landlord eating lunch—which happens to be another tenant! The whole city’s swarming with zombies, and even though he’s running for his life, Akira has never felt more alive!
Yuusuke Ishida (Re:Mind series, Still Dreamin’) is directing the Zom 100 live-action movie based on a screenplay by Tatsurou Mishima (Ai no Komuragaeri). The cast includes Eiji Akaso as Akira, Mai Shiraishi as Shizuka Mikazuki, and Shuntarou Yanagi as Kenichirou Ryuuzaki.
An anime series adaptation of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is also coming to Netflix (and Hulu). The anime will premiere on July 9.
