Kadokawa Adds Noizi Ito, Hajime Kamoshida & Mine Yoshizaki as “Supporters” for 1st TATESC COMICS Global Awards

Kadokawa has announced the appointment of three established Japanese creators as “Supporters” for the 1st TATESC COMICS Global Awards. The international contest began accepting entries from around the world on March 9, 2023 and is coordinated by Kadokawa World Entertainment for the English language. 

Noizi Itou (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Shakugan no Shana illustrator), Hajime Kamoshida (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl author), and Mine Yoshizaki (Sgt. Frog manga artist) will serve as “Supporters” for the 1st TATESC COMICS Global Awards, who will provide professional insight to contest winners. 

The Supporter program was designed to support new manga artists looking to take their artistic expression to the next level. Further guidance will be offered to winners for their debuts and additional details will be released later on. 

This is the third overall edition of Kadokawa’s TATESC COMICS Global Awards, with this being the first time submissions have been opened to contestants from around the world. Entries are currently being accepted in six different languages, including English and Japanese. The application period for new entries runs from March 9, 2023 to August 31, 2023, ending at 11:59 PM JST. 

The awards for contest winners are as follows: 

Prizes for each language

First place: 15,000 USD

Second place: 2,500 USD

Third place: 1,000 USD

Translation and Publication Award in Japan

First place: 15,000 USD

Second place: 2,500 USD

Third place: 1,000 USD

The “Translation and Publication Award” will be granted to three submissions from five eligible languages (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, Malay). These works will be translated and published in Japanese. 

Afterwards, each winning entry will be serialized as a vertical scrolling comic, with professional editors offering advice on how to bring the work to its full potential. In the event that no entries reach win an award, some prizes may remain unclaimed.

Finalists for the 1st TATESC COMICS Global Awards will be announced on a special website in October 2023. The final selection results will be announced in November 2023, along with the award-winning works in each language and the “Translation and Publication Award” for works selected for translation and distribution in Japan. An award ceremony will be held in December 2023 in Japan, with details on the location to be announced at a later date.

TATESC is a vertical scrolling comic label that was launched by Kadokawa in August 2021. It is available on mobile, tablets, and PC devices. BookWalker launched the service in English in 2022 and included launch titles that include Bungo Stray Dogs, Interspecies Reviewers, and The Devil is a Part Timer!, among other series.
