The Twitter account of The Misfit of Demon King Academy anime has revealed that the second season will began its rebroadcast on July 8 (effectively July 9 at 1:30 AM JST) in Japan.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 originally premiered in January before having its broadcast postponed in February. Only six episodes were released before the delay, which was attributed to the spread of COVID-19. The upcoming rebroadcast will start with the anime’s first episode.

The anime is based on the Kadokawa-published light novels written by Shuu with illustrations from Yoshinori Shizuma that began in 2018. The light novel series, which has 17 books (including volumes that have two separately published parts) as of May 2023, is published under the Dengeki Bunko label.

J-Novel Club describes the light novels as:

Tired of ceaseless war destroying humans, spirits, and demons alike, the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, reincarnates to restore peace. Two thousand years have passed…but who could have known that his descendants’ complacency would cause magic to regress so much? After receiving an invitation to the illustrious Demon King Academy, a school tasked with locating the reincarnated founding ancestor, Anos resolves to enroll, only to discover that his magic is off the charts—literally! With power too great to be measured, the former Demon King is branded a misfit. How will he convince demonkind that the school’s founder stands before them? Thus begins a misfit’s climb to the top of the demon hierarchy!

The staff of the anime includes Shin Oonuma (Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA Licht Nameless GirlDeep Insanity: The Lost Child) as chief director, Masafumi Tamura (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in a Different World as an Aristocrat) as director, Kazuyuki Yamayoshi (Deep Insanity: The Lost Child) as character designer, Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp Season 2) as series composer, and Keiji Inai (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4) as music composer. SILVER LINK is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the main cast includes Yuuichirou Umehara as Anos Voldigord (replacing Season 1’s Tatsuhisa Suzuki), Tomori Kusunoki as Misha Necron, and Yuko Natsuyoshi as Sasha Necron.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2017. The light novel series inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by the late Kayaharuka that began in 2018; Kayaharuka passed away on July 6, 2021. A Kadokawa-published manga anthology by various artists was released in 2020.

The first season of the anime aired in 2020 and ran for 13 episodes. Season 2 will have a split-cour format.
