Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse Gets Manga Spinoff from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Creators

Shueisha and Marvel Entertainment announced that a spinoff manga titled Spider-Man: Octopus Girl will launch in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga app on June 20, 2023. The creative duo in charge of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga, Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court, will handle the story and art for the spinoff manga.

The manga was created to promote the release of the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film in Japan on June 16, 2023. Japanese musician LiSA will perform the main theme song “REALiZE” for the Japanese language version of the film. Meanwhile, the film will premiere in the United States on June 2, 2023. 

Spider-Man: Octopus Girl follows the iconic Spider-Man villain Doctor Octopus, who falls into a coma and awakens in the body of a Japanese middle schooler named Otoha Okutamiya.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will feature many iterations of the superhero in a battle across various times and spaces. Producer and writer Phil Lord teased that Toei’s 1978 Spider-Man hero Takuya Yamashiro will be featured in a cameo in the film.
