A new trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 that previews its first opening song “Ao no Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani and a good amount of new footage has been released.
Additionally, the character designs for the show’s “Shibuya Incident Arc” were revealed.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will premiere on July 6 and run for two consecutive cours, which will cover the “Gojo’s Past Arc” and the “Shibuya Incident Arc.” The first season aired from October 2020 to March 2021 with 24 episodes.
The supernatural action anime is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Gege Akutami, which began in 2018 and has 22 tankoubon volumes as of March 2023. Viz Media describes the manga as:
Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is helmed by Shouta Goshozono (Episode director and storyboard artist for Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 17, Ranking of Kings Episode 21, Chainsaw Man Episode 8 et al.) instead of Season 1’s Sunghoo Park (who has since founded E&H production). Other staff for the MAPPA production include:
• Series composer and scriptwriter: Hiroshi Seko (returning)
• Character designer: Tadashi Hiramatsu (also credited in Season 1)
• Character designer: Sayaka Koiso (Jujutsu Kaisen 0 sub-character designer)
• Assistant director: Ryouta Aikei (Attack on Titan Final Season: The Final Chapters, Special 1 co-storyboard artist and unit director)
• Compositing director: Teppei Itou (returning)
• Color designer: Eiko Matsushima (Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Bullet opening movie)
• Art director: Junichi Higashi (Jujutsu Kaisen 0)
• Music composer: Yoshimasa Terui (Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 co-composer)
The principle voice cast members for the “Gojo’s Past Arc” are Yuuichi Nakamura as Satoru Gojo, Takahiro Sakurai as Geto Suguru, Aya Endou as Shoko Ieiri, Anna Nagase as Riko Amanai, and Takehito Koyasu as Toji Fushiguro.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and published under the Jump Comics label. A prequel manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was first serialized in Jump GIGA in 2017 under a different name and later published as a single volume manga in November 2018. An anime movie adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premiered in Japan on December 24 and became the country’s 16th top-grossing movie of all time.
