A character visual for the upcoming Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime adaptation has been released, providing a look at the design of its titular protagonist Frieren, an over-millennia-old elf and magic user.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will begin airing during the Fall 2023 anime season. It is based on the Shogakukan-published manga written by Kanehito Yamada and drawn by Tsukasa Abe, which was the grand prize winner of Manga Taisho 2021. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2020 and has 10 tankoubon volumes published under the Shonen Sunday Comics label as of March 2023.

Viz Media describes the manga as:

Decades after their victory, the funeral of one her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfill the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure…

Keiichirou Saitou (Bocchi the Rock!) is serving as the anime’s director. Other main staff members include Tomohiro Suzuki (One-Punch Man) as series composer, Reiko Nagasawa (takt op.Destiny) as character designer, and Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) as music composer. MADHOUSE is the animation production company.

Providing the voice of Frieren is Atsumi Tanezaki.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
